It has been 7 months since my father died. This gathering in our homeland was the first time the extended Shumway family had been together since his funeral.
I knew the day would be a tough one...for everyone. But I hoped being with Dad's brother and sisters would bring some comfort to my lonely heart. I wonder if my brother and two sisters feel like I do...it seems unfair that WE are the first to lose both parents.
My husband Ron embraced his role as observer and photographer. When he showed me the pictures, it confirmed what I had witnessed. My Dad lives now in the faces of those who love him. His smile, his eyes, his voice, his mannerisms...they are all here.
